I’m Theresa Lategan, a registered Occupational Therapist with 28 years of experience helping children who learn differently.
After graduating from the University of the Free State, I started at Bartimea school for the Deaf and Blind in Thaba Nchu, then spent time at Martie Du Plessis Special Needs school.
From there, life took me to Pietersburg where I joined a private practice focused on children with learning difficulties, and eventually to Johannesburg where I’ve worked across private practices and schools ever since.
My focus has always been on children who don’t fit the typical learner mould — those with processing difficulties and developmental challenges that make everyday tasks feel harder than they should. I work with children aged 4 to 13, and I’ve learned that positive relationships are everything. When a child feels safe and connected, that’s when real progress happens.
Parenting an atypical learner is hard. I know that firsthand as a mom of three boys who each had their own struggles during their school years. Those experiences shaped how I work — I’m not just treating a diagnosis, I’m helping families bring out the best in their child, at home and in therapy.
I believe we learn best through activities that are fun, meaningful and motivating. By shaping foundational brain networks early, we don’t just build skills for everyday life — we improve social-emotional wellbeing too.
I feel privileged to walk alongside each child and family as we create new foundations for optimal development.
